Scope of Operations

Underwriters is a one-stop testing operation with services that include electrical and electronic testing and certification, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, environmental testing, energy meter certification, calibration, precision dimensional and volumetric measurement, a consultancy service for approvals of electrical and electronic products, a product development service and CE marking.

Accreditations

Underwriters's test procedures are performed in accordance with NZS/ISO/IEC Guide 17025 incorporating the relevant sections of ISO 9001 and ISO 9002, with its in-house quality management system meeting third party national and international accreditation requirements.

The laboratories aim to assist high-tech manufacturers to overcome non-tariff trade barriers by providing product certification that will allow products to be exported globally.

Having been recognised as a testing facility for the European Union (CAB), Hong Kong, Singapore and the Middle East through multi-lateral agreements, Underwriters has also entered into privately negotiated Memorandums of Understanding with global partners to facilitate world-wide acceptance of its IANZ accredited test reports.

Underwriters's test reports are currently accepted in Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Chinese Taipei, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, The Middle East, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom and The USA.

Underwriters is a member of the VDE test data acceptance programme and its test data is accepted by FCC for parts 15 and 16 for certification in the USA.

History

Underwriters Laboratories was established over 30 years ago in the early 1970s and gained its first third party accreditation from Telarc in 1988. Since then, Underwriters's commitment to provide for the current and future needs of its customers has ensured a continued expansion in its scope of operations and accreditations in many fields.

Previously part of the PDL Group of companies, Underwriters Laboratories was purchased by independent owners in April 2002. Underwriters is now firmly focused on becoming the largest and most qualified "One-Stop" testing operation in the Asia-Pacific region by continuing to widen its accredited testing capabilities.
