5 March, 2002Sale of Underwriters Laboratories Ltd. to Manuel
Shimasaki and Matt Toohey
As part of Schneider Electric SA strategy to focus
on its core business of developing, manufacturing and supplying products
and solutions to its global markets, PDL Holdings has announced that it
has sold the New Zealand business of Underwriters Laboratories to Manuel
Shimasaki, the current General Manager and Matt Toohey, a local
businessman. The new company will continue to trade as Underwriters
Laboratories from the sale, which is effective 2 April 2002. As part of the sale the new company will be offering
employment to all existing employees and PDL Electrical Products will
continue to contract its testing requirements with Underwriters. Underwriters employs 12 highly skilled staff to conduct
a range of testing services including calibration, electrical testing and
certification, electromagnetic compatibility testing, metrology and
environmental testing. The laboratory is internationally recognised and
accredited by New Zealand, Australia, the European Union, the United
States (electromagnetic compatibility), Hong Kong and Singapore. Along with the testing services, Underwriters’s
experienced test engineer team can provide expert development assistance
and workshop facilities for modifications. The combined service offering of the laboratory
provides a powerful and cost-effective tool for local and overseas

Director of the new company. Manuel has been managing Underwriters for over
ten years. Matt Toohey will continue to operate his export
marketing practise, Bolzano Trading Company and will be involved on a
day-to-day basis with Underwriters to promote and drive the business locally
